mass ICE kidnappings
spark terror and resistance—
LA protests burn
my Boston skyline
hidden in a hot, thick haze—
smoke crosses borders

Today, I'm thinking about how local events have global impacts. I'm thinking about how the rising dictatorship here in America emboldens dictatorship everywhere. I'm thinking of Canada on fire. I'm thinking of those signs in national forests that tell us what the risk of fire is today, and how the risk of our freedom turning to ash is so very, very high.
This weekend, No Kings and Pride-related protests against the Trump administration's attempt to fast track our country towards fascism will be taking place across the country. If you are one of the millions of people planning to attend and raise your voice, thank you. If you cannot attend a protest in person but are choosing to resist this weekend in other ways, thank you. If you are choosing to rest so you can resist at other times, thank you.
An update on projects: I have polished my chapbook of protest poetry What May Not Be Erased, and made it available in 2 PDFs-- one for easy reading, and one for easy printing. You can find the post with the free downloads and information on how to request free hard copies here.
Thank you to Ruth for hosting Poetry Friday today at There is no such thing as a godforsaken town. As always, this community is a source of light and hope for me. Sending well wishes to all!
